Church of God Scattered Faithful
Following the death of Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong in 1986, the Worldwide Church of God (under the leadership of Joseph W. Tkach), began to make substantial changes to its long-held doctrinal beliefs. The end result of those changes produced irreparable turmoil which subsequently resulted in various church splits and the scattering of its membership.
It has been estimated that the Church of God has fractured into nearly 500 separate corporate churches. Sadly, group after group have continued to depart from God’s TRUTH (in varying degrees), veering away from the very doctrines as Mr. Armstrong taught them.
“And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” (Matthew 24:14)
This commission (Matthew 24:14), was fulfilled by Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong! He delivered the Gospel message to the world, and gave an “Ezekiel Warning Message” to the house of Israel (Ezekiel 3:4). On Pages 290-291 of the book Mystery of the Ages, Mr. Armstrong wrote (underscored emphasis ours)…
“Also a door was to be opened for THIS leader and/or Philadelphia era of the Church to FULFILL Matthew 24:14.”
“I think that when God lets me die, the thing He’s called me for will have been completed, preparing the way for the Second Coming of Christ carrying that Gospel of the Kingdom to the world for a witness to all nations.”
Statements like these make it clear that Mr. Armstrong was fully aware of the responsibility given to him by Jesus Christ with fulfilling the role of taking the Gospel to the world. Yet, there are those who presently insist they too have been given this awesome responsibility to accomplish what has already been accomplished in prophecy – through Mr. Armstrong.
If we once again look at Matthew 24:14, we see Jesus saying, “…then shall the end come.” Some leaders actually envision themselves doing an even “bigger work” than what took place during Mr. Armstrong’s lifetime. In reality, not a one of those groups has achieved anything close to the same level or scope of what was already fulfilled. What they often fail to realize is that the “END” spoken of by Jesus, would actually serve as a sign that marks the countdown of time leading up to the return of Jesus Christ. This means that the role given to Mr. Armstrong by Christ (in preaching the gospel), was the fulfillment of this scripture.
Does this mean that the gospel message of Jesus Christ should not even be preached at all? Absolutely not! The gospel message is at the heart of everything we believe, scripturally. “Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:14-15).
However, we must also realize that our intent or emphasis in trying to “reach the entire world all over again”, is NOTthe job description now given to us by Christ. As the apostle Paul said… “… lest I should build upon another man’s foundation” (Romans 15: 20). We can see what Paul was saying here about not preaching the gospel in places where it had already been delivered by another man. This scripture alone serves as a Biblical proof, or precedent – showing why we should not attempt to duplicate what has already been accomplished through Mr. Armstrong. Those who are intent on trying to duplicate Mr. Armstrong’s commission all over again, need to begin pondering this scripture.
What then should be the work (emphasis), of God’s Church today? Just what does Christ expect his true ministers to be doing at this very moment in time? It has been said repeatedly in the past, that one of Mr. Armstrong’s last instructions to Mr. Joseph W. Tkach (in the final days of Mr. Armstrong’s life), was, “I have reached world leaders.Your job is to get the Church ready.”
In a “Brethren, Co-Worker Letter” dated July 24, 1979, Mr. Armstrong wrote the following…
“When Christ comes this Church shall have MADE HERSELF READY! HOW READY? Notice, how ready: “…Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it…by the word, that He might present it to Himself a GLORIOUS CHURCH, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing but that it should be holy and WITHOUT BLEMISH” (Eph.5:25-27).
“BRETHREN, WE ARE NOT READY! And TIME IS NOW SHORT! We still have many blemishes to remove (spiritually)–many spots to clean off and wrinkles to iron out!”
Here is another quote from Mr. Armstrong…
“Fellow Ministers, God has made it our job to PREPARE His Church that we may be “without spot or wrinkle…holy and without blemish” WHEN Christ comes! This means renewed dedication, more constant and intensive earnest prayer, “soul-searching,” and determined preparation. This is a serious responsibility for all of us!” (Pastor General’s Report, Vol. 2, No. 26, June 27, 1980).
Church of God-Scattered Faithful is not like the scores of other “corporate” Church of God organizations. We do not have the authority to change any doctrine, restored truth, or judgment instituted (by Christ), through God’s end-time apostle – Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong! Neither do the others! PERIOD! See Matthew 16:18-19 and Matthew 17:11. We believe Mr. Armstrong was also given the role of “Elijah” in type, as was John the Baptist. John the Baptist prepared the way for Christ’s first coming. Mr. Armstrong was given the role of preparing the way for Christ’s second coming.
The Church of God Scattered-Faithful was formed to serve the brethren, the scattered members of God’s True Church who are holding fast to the original Biblical doctrines as delivered by Christ; to feed the “sheep” and to help prepare Christ’s Bride for the soon-coming Kingdom of God (John 21:15-17). We fully believe that it is our responsibility to God’s people to uphold what Mr. Armstrong stated to the ministry (Mr. Tkach), in the final days of his life… “I have reached world leaders. Your job is to get the Church ready.”
The Church of God – Scattered Faithful, does not boast of any “evangelistic leadership” by previously hired ministers from the Worldwide Church of God. The scattered brethren of God’s Church have come to realize that much of the former leadership of the Church of God (sadly), have actually led to, and contributed to the now scattered condition of God’s people.
Mr. Gary Liebold – an ordained elder who pastors this Church, is non-salaried, and believes that a faithful minister of Jesus Christ has the duty and responsibility to reach out, and offer spiritual help and guidance to the true scattered remnant of God’s Church – as the spiritual “bride” prepares for the coming of Jesus Christ (Revelation 19:7-9).
With the realization and understanding of the end-time condition for God’s people, Mr. Liebold chose the name for this spiritual body – Church of God – Scattered Faithful (See – Acts 20:28; Jeremiah 23:1-2; Ezekiel 34:5-6; Revelation 17:14).
