Dear Brethren,

Five police officers have been killed by gunmen in Dallas, Texas, during a large protest against fatal police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota. (CNN)

We’re hurting,” said Dallas Police Chief David Brown in a Friday morning news conference. “Our profession is hurting. Dallas officers are hurting. We are heartbroken. There are no words to describe the atrocity that occurred to our city. All I know is this must stop, this divisiveness between our police and our citizens. (Fox News)

My wife was talking to a lady today who had just heard about last night’s fatal shootings in Dallas, Texas, on her car radio. She asked my wife, “Do you know anything about a shooting in Dallas last night?” My wife said, “Yes, there were five police officers killed and seven wounded by a sniper, or snipers, last night.” The lady immediately said, “I don’t understand what’s happening in our country. What’s going on with people? I’m scared for our nation.”

Actually, God shows us in our Bibles exactly what’s wrong.

(7)  Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.
(8)  The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
(9)  Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness (Isaiah 59:7-9)

God’s late apostle, Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong, described today’s modern society as being a complete mystery to mankind. Without understanding the beginning of civilization, we simply cannot understand why the world is like it is today. There is a reason! Here is some of what Mr. Armstrong wrote on the subject of the “Mystery of Civilization”, in Mystery of the Ages (pages 136, 137 and 139).

FEW stop to think about it, but when you do, could anything be wrapped in more mystery than this world’s civilization? …explain the astonishing paradox, a world of human minds that can send astronauts to the moon and back, produce the marvels of science and technology, transplant human hearts — yet cannot solve simple human problems of family life and group relationships, or peace between nations?

We were born into this 20th-century world as it is. We take it for granted. But we can’t explain it. It’s like viewing a movie at a point already near the end. We see what is occurring at that point, but, not having seen it from the beginning and not knowing how events developed to the point of viewing, we simply cannot understand what we are seeing. A fiction writer wrote about a time machine that could transport one back to some time in history. If we had such a time machine, we should now transport ourselves backward 6,000 years where we could actually see what was transpiring in that original Garden of Eden, at the foundation of the world. That’s where this civilization started. Then we may better understand why there is now talk of the imminent end of the world.

But what has man done on the earth where God placed him? Man has made ugly, polluted, defiled, profaned everything his hands have touched. He has polluted the air, befouled the water in the rivers, lakes and seas. He has deteriorated the land, denuded the forests, thus altering rainfall and causing the expansion of deserts. He has worn out the soil by neglecting to give it its Sabbaths of rest every seven years. Man has built cities and allowed them to deteriorate into slums, filth and squalor.

All because the very first human rejected and turned from God, relying solely on himself — and all Adam’s children have done likewise.

Thus man has built a man-made and Satan influenced civilization.

The very first man, Adam, rejected God’s way of life and chose the way of self-reliance, in a world influenced and led by Satan the Devil. Until God’s Government rules this earth, the downward spiral of society will continue to grow worse! Man does not know how to solve his problems! Thankfully, God will show him how.

(6)  For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(7)  Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this (Isaiah 9:6-7)

I’ll end tonight’s letter with paragraphs from the Plain Truth Magazine, “Personal From The Editor”, July, 1968.

Can our PLAIN TRUTH readers REALIZE that NEVER, in this present world, has society entered a condition like this? Can we SEE where it is headed? Must we sleep on, stupidly supposing that if we ignore it, or kid ourselves conditions are no worse than ever, that it will somehow just go away?

This accelerating moral cancer eating away at our SICK SOCIETY signals the END OF THIS WORLD!

Our marriage and HOME relationships are breaking up — and when a right and healthy HOME and FAMILY relationship — with Dad at the helm, the children in respectful obedience, all honoring, obeying and worshiping GOD — when THIS goes, CIVILIZATION GOES!

…But finally, WHERE is it all leading?

It is leading — speedily — to the ONLY HOPE of human SURVIVAL!

And that is the imminent coming of Jesus Christ — this time in the FULL SUPREME POWER and RESPLENDENT GLORY of the Almighty GOD, to take over the governing of EVERY NATION ON EARTH — to set up a divine WORLD GOVERNMENT that will forcibly PUT DOWN all war, violence, crime and vice!

The only HOPE of humanity from utter destruction, now, is the WORLD GOVERNMENT that will usher in — in the hands of GOD — the happy, peaceful WORLD TOMORROW!

Please have a good Sabbath everyone!

Your Brother in Christ,

Gary Liebold
